Air Clips
  • Pilots at Southwest Airlines Co have rejected a tentative contract with the U.S. budget carrier, their union said on Wednesday. Also in Dallas Morning News.
  • The British government suspended all fights to and from the Egyptian resort town of Sharm el-Sheikhafter saying “an explosive device” may have caused a Russian jet to crash last weekend on the Sinai Peninsula.
  • Both Frontier and Spirit airlines will charge a little bit extra for bags to fly around Thanksgiving and Christmas. It's a move that Spirit made last year and will implement again this holiday season. This is the first year Frontier will have the surcharge.

Rail Clips
  • How do you get a controversial plan through Congress with little fuss and few fingerprints? Lawmakers showed one-way last week as they raced to give railroads a reprieve, allowing them three to five more years to install Positive Train Control, a safety system the rail lines were supposed to have in place by Dec. 31.
Transit & Transportation Clips
  • An MTA bus driver making a left turn struck and killed a woman crossing a Queens street Sunday morning. The victim, Leila Enukasvili, 59, was in the crosswalk and likely had the right of way at the time she was struck, based on available information.
  • Several elected officials criticized the stalling of the Second Avenue Subway's extension to East Harlem and asked for a new timeline for the project in a letter to the MTA, after the agency reduced capital funding to the second phase in its four-year plan and said tunnel boring would not begin until after 2019
  • Fifteen stories below the bustling sidewalks of Park Avenue in midtown. Manhattan, it's starting to look like a bona fide train station. Also in Capital NY, and Crain’s.
  • Democrats provided majority Republicans the votes they needed Wednesday to approve $350 million in borrowing for major road construction projects across Wisconsin, avoiding delays that could affect some of the most heavily traveled parts of the state
  • A long-term highway funding bill being debated by the U.S. House this week may be the first bright spot in months for construction-equipment giant Caterpillar Inc., which announced restructuring plans in September that may involve cutting 10,000 or more jobs.
  • House Republicans have killed a proposal to increase the 18.4-cents-per-gallon federal gas tax, blocking a vote on a controversial highway bill amendment that would have raised it by 15 cents.
