The fall has found TWU Local 252 very busy with ratifying a contract with First Student that has provided the membership with not only wage increases but improvements in Holiday pay, Longevity Bonuses and additional relief with medical premiums to name a few. We have had busy and informative union meetings with AFLAC attending all of Octobers meetings and will be having an AFLAC day at the union office this month. The union hosted the meeting of the NY/NJ State conference this past October and will be hosting again this November where Congressman Lee Zeldin will meet with us to discuss transportation issues. November also finds us holding union meetings where we will have our annual drawing of gift cards for your Thanksgiving turkey.
In November, we also celebrate and honor our Veterans, so remember our men and women who have served to protect our Freedom. This year we are honoring our TWU Local 252 members who have served in the Military on Friday November 13th at our Bets for Vets event where not only will we recognize each of our veterans and present them with a gift of appreciation from TWU Local 252 but also all the net proceeds from this event will go to United Way of Long Island for their Veterans programs. This will be a fun night of music, food and gambling for fun and prizes including a Chinese auction and 50/50. Don't forget to sign up in your drivers rooms and in the shop.
The Working Women's Committee has met and set this year's project to be the collection of items needed and appreciated by the deployed military. They are coordinating this project with our Veteran's Committee so " Look for the Box " at every location and donate an item to be sent overseas to our men and women protecting our freedoms. A list of needed items are posted near the box for the month of November.
We have addressed many issues over the past months with much success on termination reversals, grievances and other issues. Remember no issue is too small for the union to address. We have had fuel times changed, park outs approved, payroll issues corrected to name a few. I have met with small groups of members to discuss their issues informally when they are not able to attend a union meeting. Reach out to your stewards and remember if you are not happy with their answers I am always approachable. Feel free to call me for I am your president and welcome hearing from you. Stay safe and healthy. TWU Local 252 respects the jobs all of you perform. Thank you for representing TWU Local 252 so well!
