"The Annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive will once again be held on Saturday, May 11th. This food drive, the largest in the nation, is put on by our brothers and sisters at the National Association of Letter Carriers and is supported by all the unions affiliated with the AFL-CIO. Nationally the food drive collects over 1 billion pounds of food every year. One of the great things about this food drive is that all food collected on Long Island stays right here on Long Island."
Every day 49 million Americans, including 16 million children, will face hunger issues. Long Island is no different. Approximately 283,700 people on Long Island receive emergency food each year. Over 110,000 of the people receiving food assistance on Long Island are children under the age of 18. All you have to do to donate is leave a bag of food underneath your mailbox on May 11th.
