Air Clips
  • A Delta Air Lines flight landed Thursday at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport after reporting a pressurization issue, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
  • Today, commercial shipbuilding by Bath Iron Works and other once-proud shipyards across the U.S. have been gutted thanks to massive and unrelenting foreign subsidies. U.S. airlines are also facing a subsidy threat, but not if the Obama administration takes immediate action
  • The Air Line Pilots Association announced that it has tentative agreement with FedEx management for a new contract, with an amendable date in 2021.
  • This week, American announced that, as of January next year, it will discontinue service between PHL and Ben Gurion Airport (TLV) in Tel Aviv, Israel.
  • A video on YouTube shows what appears to be lightning striking a Delta Air Lines plane at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
Rail Clips
  • Fixes aren’t quick in a commuter-rail tunnel beneath the Hudson River. Not when the crew is diverted to a more pressing repair. Not when 300 feet of faulty power cable is pulled from its housing and another 100 feet won’t budge.
  • New York Assemblyman Phil Goldfeder (D - Howard Beach) has called on the Metropolitan Transportation Authority to apply for funds from a recently-announced New York State Department of Transportation infrastructure grant to fund a comprehensive feasibility study into reactivation of the abandoned Rockaway Beach rail spur.
Transit and Transportation Clips
  • Signal problems snagged subway service between Brooklyn and Manhattan just in time for the afternoon rush Thursday.
  • A jaywalking woman was killed yesterday morning when she was struck by an express bus in Midtown.
  • This has been a tough season for commuters in the New York region: the Amtrak crash in May, trains stuck in Hudson River tunnels in June, subway service disrupted by never-ending summer construction. Still, more than 5.6 million people take the subway each weekday, the most since 1949; New Jersey Transit’s ridership into the city has risen 75 percent in the past 15 years, and Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor carried a record of nearly 12 million riders last year.
  • AL-U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx told a group of Mobile business leaders Monday he and his office support a new Interstate 10 bridge project and gave examples of funding sources.
  • Northwest Arkansas cities submitted projects Thursday they hope will be paid for with federal money administered by the Northwest Arkansas Regional Planning Commission.
  • The clock is again ticking on federal transportation funding, which runs out at the end of October. Congress must make passing long-term, comprehensive transportation legislation a priority this fall. The Senate has introduced its version of a three-year transportation bill, which is a good first step, but there is still much work to be done to achieve final legislation.
  • The Federal Highway Administration said Thursday that U.S. residents have driven a record number of miles in the first half of 2015. The agency said drivers have traveled 1.54 trillion miles between January and June, topping a previous record of 1.5 trillion miles that was set in 2007
